Simple Dyeing for Cotton, Paper and Leather
Direct dyes are water-soluble colourants with a natural affinity for cellulose. They dye cotton, viscose, linen, paper pulp and leather directly from a neutral or slightly alkaline bath with salt — no mordant needed.
They are a popular choice where cost and simplicity matter more than top wash fastness. After-treatment with a cationic fixing agent can improve wet fastness for demanding end uses.
